According to a report at Deadline, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire’s Mike Newell has signed up to direct the new version of John Wyndham’s classic story, The Day of the Triffids.
The screenplay has been written by Doctor Who and Luther scripter Neil Cross, and the Harry Potter director comes to the project almost a year after Ghost House Pictures first announced the project. According to publicity then, the film is based on both Wyndham’s novel and the 1962 film version.
The story formed the basis of two BBC adaptations, in 1981 and 2009.
