One of the many Wizard of Oz-derived shows which have been mooted in the past few months is definitely going to series.

Emerald City is getting a ten episode straight to series order. Previously described as “a modern and dark reimagining of the classic tale of Oz in the vein of Game of Thrones,” Emerald City comes from Siberia’s Matthew Arnold, and will draw on L. Frank Baum’s entire Oz canon for inspiration, rather than just the first book, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.

NBC calls it a “dramatic and modern reimagining of the tales that include lethal warriors, competing kingdoms, and the infamous wizard as we’ve never seen him before. A head-strong 20-year-old Dorothy Gale is unwittingly sent on an eye-opening journey that thrusts her into the centre of an epic and bloody battle for the control of Oz.”

Matt Arnold and Josh Friedman will serve as executive producers.
