GothamAlthough it seemed from the original announcement that Fox’s new Gotham series would be set in Batman’s home city without the presence of its most famous resident, it now transpires that a young Bruce Wayne will be part of the set up after all.

According to the reports from the TCA, Fox chairman Kevin Reilly has revealed that “we will arc a young Bruce Wayne from a child into the final episode of the  series, when he will put on the cape.” He later suggested that he expects Bruce to be around 12 years old at the start of the show. This will bring back memories for many of the way that Smallville was promoted a decade ago with that show’s “no flights, no tights” mantra increasingly becoming a hindrance to storytelling.

Reilly confirmed that the Caped Crusader’s Villains Gallery will feature: “We will see how they get to become what they are as Gotham is teetering on the edge. It is an operatic soap with a larger than life quality.”

Gotham, developed by Bruno Heller, will be one of the first series to be produced under Fox’s new “no pilot season” set up: the network has ordered work on other scripts beyond the pilot – to be directed by Danny Cannon – to show how the series would develop.
