Alexandra Bastedo, who starred alongside William Gaunt and Stuart Damon as Sharon Macready, one of The Champions, the heroes of the super-powered ITC series, has died, aged 67.

Bastedo had fought a long battle against cancer, but her death on January 12th was unexpected, according to the trustees of the ABC Animal Sanctuary, which she founded over thirty years ago.

Her career included William Castle’s The Candy Web when she was just sixteen, and the original comic version of Casino Royale. She appeared in many of the other ITC series, including The Saint, Randall & Hopkirk (Deceased), and Jason King, and appeared opposite Peter Cushing and John Hurt in The Ghoul.

Other genre work included Michael J. Bird’s haunting series The Aphrodite Inheritance and Christian Nolan’s Batman Begins. Alongside her work with animals, she continued to act and direct.
