Sci-Fi Bulletin: Exploring the Universes of SF, Fantasy, Horror and Spy-fi!

The reign of the 12th Doctor has officially begun, with filming starting today on the first episode of Series 8, written by Steven Moffat, and featuring Peter Capaldi in his first full story as the Doctor.

The BBC has released a shot of Capaldi – still dressed in Matt Smith’s 11th Doctor outfit – on set with Jenna Coleman and confirmed that Phil Ford is writing the second episode of the season. Both are being directed by Ben Wheatley.

According to the Doctor Who site, Capaldi commented, “New job, first day, slightly nervous. Just like the Doctor, I’m emerging from the TARDIS into a whole other world.”

Filming will take place between now and August this year, with the series expected to start transmission in the Autumn.
