the_walking_dead_s4b_key_artWith the release of the key art poster for the second half of The Walking Dead‘s fourth season, the show’s new direction is starting to become clearer.

“The prison has fallen, there won’t be any more stories there, and now our characters are out on their own,” comics creator and executive producer Robert Kirkman told The Hollywood Reporter. “They’ve lost the prison, they’ve lost where they live and where they were building their lives, and they’re also separated and have lost each other. They’re out in the unknown trying to survive. We’re going to be going into some very interesting places with all of these characters and seeing new sides to all of them as they figure out how to survive.”

A trio of characters from the comics – former Army sergeant Abraham, high school science teacher Dr Eugene Porter and Rosita Espinosa – will make their debut, played by Michael Cudlitz, Josh McDermitt and Twilight‘s Christian Serratos, and a new character Gareth, played by Andrew J. West will also appear. According to the Hollywood Reporter, he is an amalgam of various characters from the comic books.

The Walking Dead returns on 9 February in the US, and is expected to restart on 14 February in the UK.
