While the brooding vampire James may be part of True Blood‘s seventh and final season, he’ll have a new face, after Luke Grimes decided not to return, apparently after seeing scripts for the new year.

According to TV Line, “[Grimes] initially joined the show because he wanted to work with [his Forever co-star] Deborah Ann Woll,” says an insider. “But when he started reading the scripts for Season 7, he was disappointed to learn that they were going in a completely different direction with James.”

HBO confirmed that “The role of James is being recast due to the creative direction of the character.”

Grimes has recently joined the cast of the 50 Shades of Grey movie, as Christian Grey’s brother.
