from-dusk-till-dawnA ten part TV series, based on the infamous Robert Rodriguez vampire movie From Dusk Till Dawn, has begun shooting in Austin, Texas which will deepen the tone of the film, add new characters and backstories and expand the Mesoamerican mythology behind the vampires.

The movie starred George Clooney, Quentin Tarantino, Harvey Keitel ,Juliet Lewis and Selma Hayek; Clooney and Tarantino’s roles will be played by DJ Cotrona and Zane Holtz respectively, with Jesse Garcia as Freddie, a new character created for the series, a Texas Ranger who sets out in pursuit of the infamous Gecko brothers. Don Johnson will succeed Michael Parks as Sheriff Earl McGraw.

According to the press release, Robert Rodriguez is helming the opening two instalments, with Tarantino and Hayek also heading behind the camera. The show has been commissioned by Rodriguez’s El Rey Network with the producer explaining that: “If the movie’s the short story, the series is the novel… We have assembled an amazing cast and crew, and viewers can expect to be  part of a wild ride when the series premieres on El Rey Network next spring.”
