Prominent British director Ben Wheatley has confirmed to Screen Daily that he will be directing two episodes for series eight of Doctor Who, featuring Peter Capaldi as the new incarnation of the Time Lord.
“I am very excited and honoured to be asked to direct the first two episodes of the new series of Doctor Who. I’ve been a fan since childhood (Tom Baker is my Doctor if you are asking),” Wheatley told Screendaily. “I’ve been watching the current run of Doctor Who with my son and have discovered it all over again. The work that has been done is amazing. I’m really looking forward to working with Peter Capaldi and finding out where Steven Moffat is planning to take the new Doctor.”
Wheatley’s recent work includes the civil war drama A Field in England, as well as Kill List and Sightseers. After directing the Who episodes, he is due to helm a production of J.G. Ballard’s High Rise, one of the inspirations for a Sylvester McCoy era story, Paradise Towers.
Steven Moffat confirmed to the Radio Times that Peter Capaldi is heavily involved in the choice of outfit that the new Doctor will be wearing.
