The Returned TVLost and Bates Motel‘s Carlton Cuse has been approached about working for A & E on The Returned, an adaptation of Les Revenants, the French TV series about a group of people returning from the dead which was recently shown in the UK on Channel 4.

The TV series was based on the 2004 film of the same name. “The Returned takes an incredibly unique approach, filled with suspense and twists and turns, to the subject of the living dead,” A&E’s EVP and general manager David McKillop told Deadline for their report.

Freemantle North America CEO Thom Beers noted, “Having seen Fabrice Gobert’s original version and the success the series has had in France, we’re thrilled to be partnering with the team at A+E to bring this enigmatic thriller to U.S. audiences.”

A second season of the original series is expected next year. The Sundance Channel is showing the French show for US audiences at Halloween this year. Although the premises are similar, there are no links between this and Jason Mott’s novel, also entitled The Returned, which is the basis for an upcoming ABC series.
