angel-timeAccording to a report at Deadline, CBS are working on a TV version of Anne Rice’s The Songs of the Seraphim novels, taking their title from Angel Time, the first book in the series, published in 2009.

The adaptation is penned by Memphis Beat creators Josh Harto and Liz Garcia, and will be directed by Joe Carnahan. Anne Rice is executive producing the project.

The TV version of Angel Time is described as “a New Orleans-set high-stakes, operatic drama about Toby O’Dare, a soulless assassin with a tragic past who finds himself on a road to redemption.” The book follows O’Dare as he is transported back by a seraph to 13th century England, and was part of Rice’s commitment to bring her Christian faith into her writing. A sequel, Of Love and Evil, followed in 2010; in interviews promoting the first book, she mentioned she was working on a third novel, but this has not yet appeared.

On her Facebook page today announcing the news of the adaptation, Rice commented that she was “Very happy about this”.
