Damon Lindelof’s new TV series, The Leftovers – co-written and based on a book by Tom Perrotta – has been picked up for a ten-episode season by HBO, with Justin Theroux and former Doctor Who star Christopher Eccleston.

It’s set after the Rapture, the time some Christians believe they will be removed from Earth and those left behind face seven years of rule by the Anti-Christ. The series is about those who weren’t removed (a theme similarly mined by the long running book series Left Behind).

The series boasts a strong cast with Theroux, Eccleston, Amy Brenneman, Liv Tyler, Chris Zylka, Margaret Qualley, Carrie Coon, Emily Meade, Amanda Warren, Ann Dowd, Michael Gaston, Max Carver, Charlie Carver, Annie Q, Paterson Joseph and Brad Leland.
