Following a sighting of filming featuring the Fourth Doctor a few days ago, rumours began flying that veteran actor Tom Baker was returning to the role he played from 1974 to 1981, as part of the 50th anniversary of Doctor Who later this year.
The truth has now been revealed: it wasn’t Baker at all. The “Fourth Doctor” was in fact played by Ian Hislop and Paul Merton, the stars of the BBC’s Have I Got News For You?, who were filming a trailer for the upcoming new series of the satirical quiz, which returns on October 4th.
No doubt, however, there will be some who believe that this story has been released by the BBC to cover the tracks when the filming was uncovered!
