Just over two months before its premiere, the BBC has confirmed that the 50th anniversary story, to be broadcast on November 23rd, will be entitled The Day of the Doctor.
The “film length” episode will in fact run for 75 minutes (the same length as David Tennant’s last episode as the Doctor, The End of Time part 2) and will include the previously announced UNIT, Daleks and Zygons, as well as Cybermen.
Danny Cohen, Director of BBC Television, said: “It’s an astonishing achievement for a drama to reach its 50th anniversary. I’d like to thank every person – on both sides of the camera – who has been involved with its creative journey over so many years.”
Head Writer Steven Moffat added: “50 years has turned Doctor Who from a television show into a cultural landmark. Personally I can’t wait to see what it becomes after a hundred.”
Digital Spy is also reporting that a restored version of the first-ever story will be broadcast on BBC Four, with a Culture Show special Me, You and Doctor Who, a science special by Professor Brian Cox and well the drama, An Adventure in Space and Time appearing on BBC Two.
