JourneySpace2Veteran broadcaster David Jacobs, who was well known to genre fans for his multiple roles in the ground-breaking radio series Journey into Space, has died aged 87.

Jacobs recently retired from his regular radio spot having broadcast regularly for over sixty years. He most recently reprised one of his roles, Jet Morgan, for the Journey into Space specials Frozen in Time in 2008, and played the titular Host in the sequel the following year (Toby Stephens played Jet for this adventure).

The original series of Journey into Space ran between 1954 and 1956, with Andrew Faulds as Jet Morgan, Guy Kingsley Poynter as Doc Matthews, Bruce Beeby and Don Sharp as “Mitch” Mitchell, and David Kossof and Alfie Bass as Lemmy. An edited version of the first series was re-recorded in 1958. Jacobs played Frank Rogers and over twenty other characters.
