Redshirts_John_Scalzi1John Scalzi, Brandon Sanderson, Pat Cadigan, Ken Liu and Mur Lafferty were among the honorees at this year’s Hugo Awards, announced in a ceremony compered by Paul Cornell on September 1st.

Scalzi’s Redshirts won Best Novel, with Sanderson’s The Emperor’s Soul awarded Best Novella. Pat Cadigan’s ‘The Girl-Thing Who Went Out for Sushi’ won Best Novelette, while Liu’s ‘Mono no Aware’ was Best Short Story. Image Comics’ Saga: Volume One, written by Brian K. Vaughn and illustrated by Fiona Staples was Best Graphic Story. Mur Lafferty, author of The Shambling Guide to New York City, was given the John W. Campbell Award for Best New Writer.

Joss Whedon’s The Avengers triumphed in Best Long Form Dramatic Presentation, while George R.R. Martin’s own episode of Game of Thrones, Blackwater, was Best Short-Form.
