Gil Taylor, the cinematographer for the original Star Wars, Doctor Strangelove, The Omen and many other key movies, has died, aged 99.
Taylor’s long career saw him work with notable directors including Alfred Hitchcock and Stanley Kubrick, and he turned down the opportunity to lens a Bond film to work with Roman Polanski on Repulsion. He started in the industry in 1929 at Gainsborough Studios, becoming a Director of Photography after the Second World War.
His other genre credits include numerous episodes of The Avengers, Damien: Omen II, Dracula and Flash Gordon. He was a founder member of the British Society of Cinematographers, who gave him a Lifetime Achievement Award in 2001.
