CapaldiIn an interview in the new Doctor Who Magazine, Doctor Who head writer Steven Moffat confirms that the writers for series eight were already working on an ‘older, trickier’ incarnation of the Time Lord even before the decision was made to cast Peter Capaldi in the role.

Moffat also confirmed at an Edinburgh Festival Fringe event on August 21st that he anticipates that Capaldi will use his natural Scottish accent for the role. Sylvester McCoy and Christopher Eccleston both used their own accents, but Paul McGann and David Tennant changed theirs for the part of the Doctor.

According to recent interviews, Neil Cross (Hide / The Rings of Akhaten) is contributing a script to series eight. Neil Gaiman (The Doctor’s Wife / Nightmare in Silver) has stated he has been approached for a third story, although he wasn’t sure if he would have time to write it in time for series eight, or it would need to be held back for series nine.
