Ted Post, the director of Beneath the Planet of the Apes, has died aged 95.
Post was a prolific director of films and TV, with other genre credits including the Prescott/Scheimer live-action series Ark II, the infamous Ernest Borgnine show Future Cop, and the short-lived (and often forgotten) TV version of Michael Crichton’s Westworld series, Beyond Westworld. He also directed the original TV movie of Cagney & Lacey, which featured MASH‘s Loretta Swit in the role eventually made famous by Burn Notice’s Sharon Gless.
Post told Cinefantastique that he found the second Apes film “a very challenging experience”, particularly as he had problems with the “unclear” storyline in the script. He was credited with devising the look of the mutants in the film, basing them on pictures he had seen in an anatomy textbook.
