Steed and Keel 01After drip feeding information all week regarding their recording of the 1960s scripts for The Avengers – with news that Colin Baker and Sophie Aldred are both appearing within the series – Big Finish has now announced who will be playing John Steed and Dr David Keel.

Julian Wadham whose TV work includes Downton Abbey, Midsomer Murders, Middlemarch and Blind Justice, will be donning the bowler hat as John Steed. He has also been seen on film in War Horse and The Iron Lady (where he played Francis Pym).

Foyle’s War‘s Anthony Howell steps up as Dr David Keel, whose fiancee’s death is the trigger for the whole Avengers saga to begin. Howell recently filmed an appearance for the new version of Dracula.

The scripts are adapted from the originals by John Dorney, and directed by Ken Bentley. Big Finish producer David Richardson has confirmed that the original Johnny Dankworth theme which accompanied the first season of the show will be used.
