INDEPENDENCE-DAYA mere seventeen years after the original film, a sequel to Roland Emmerich and Dean Devlin’s Independence Day has been given the green light by Fox and will be released on July 3, 2015.

Emmerich and Devlin have been proposing sequels for many years, even suggesting last September that two films could be made (entitled ID Forever parts 1 and 2). At present the single sequel is simply listed as Independence Day 2 (will that make it ID4-2?)

Fox will be hoping that the team of Jeff Goldblum and Will Smith will be reunited for the sequel
