Star_Wars_Logo_svgStar Wars creator George Lucas’ primary focus over the years has been on the big screen, but he has been involved with various series for television including the recently cancelled Clone Wars show.

Lucas’ work on this has been honoured by the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences in the US at their 40th Daytime Emmy Awards. He was presented with the award for Outstanding Special Class Animated Program by Carrie Fisher, who played Princess Leia in the original Star Wars trilogy.

Lucas thanked the Academy for including animation in their programme, and commented that this was only the second award he had ever won (he was given an NAACP Image Award for Red Tails). “We’ve been out there quite a while,” he added. “We’re proud to finally win an Emmy.”

Doctor Who actor David Tennant also received a Daytime Emmy for his work on the show.
