According to a tweet from the official BBC Three twitter feed, zombie drama In the Flesh has been picked up for a second series for broadcast in 2014.

“*NEWS* Our zombie drama IN THE FLESH will be back in 2014!”

Creator Dominic Mitchell said: “I am absolutely delighted and thrilled to be given this fantastic opportunity to continue exploring the characters and world of In The Flesh.”

He had previously noted that there was plenty of scope for further stories within the framework established in the first series, and star Luke Newberry has expressed his hopes for tales set outside the Yorkshire village which was the main base for the first year.

According to Broadcast, the new series ‘is likely to be 6 x 60-minutes although it could be a five-part series’. BBC3 controller Zai Bennett said: ‘In the Flesh was a fantastically original and engaging drama for BBC3. I’m delighted Dominic and the team will be able to tell more stories from the riveting characters and engaging world they created.’

New castmembers and additional writers will be involved with the new season.

In the Flesh begins broadcast on BBC America later this summer.
