Game-of-Thrones-logo2Fantasy series Game of Thrones was the only genre winner at the BAFTA TV Awards held on May 12th at the Royal Festival Hall.

The series, based on George R.R. Martin’s book saga, won the Audience Award, although it failed to win in its other nominated category, International.

Although Doctor Who was not nominated for anything this year, the 50th anniversary was recognised with a lengthy montage of short clips featuring all the Doctors (albeit a photograph of Paul McGann) as well as a short sketch featuring Matt Smith and Jenna-Louise Coleman in character. This was one bright spot for fans on a day when the ending to series 7 was accidentally revealed to purchasers of the blu-ray box set in the United States, who received their copies ten days earlier than they should have done. The BBC are anxious to avoid spoilers being posted – and Sci-Fi Bulletin will not be posting any – in the run up to the broadcast next Saturday.
