David Tennant and Billie Piper are returning to Doctor Who for this November’s 50th anniversary special episode, the BBC have confirmed. They’ll star alongside current Doctor Matt Smith and his new companion actress Jenna-Louise Coleman. Also guest-starring in the episode is Alien actor and Merlin voice-over star John Hurt.
In the new issue of Doctor Who Magazine, Matt Smith says of showrunner Steven Moffat’s script for the special episode: “What he’s written is just spellbinding. It’s one of the best [episodes] ever, ever, ever. He’s been wanting to write this script forever, and he’s really done it justice. It’s not just an episode of Doctor Who, it’s something else, something bigger and more exciting!”
Although not yet confirmed, it is expected that the special will air on 23rd November 2013, 50 years to the day since the show began. No running time has yet been announced.
