New England horror writer Rick Hautala has died, aged 64.
The winner of the Bram Stoker Award for Lifetime Achievement from the Horror Writers Association in 2011 died from a heart attack on March 21. With over thirty books published – some co-written with Christopher Golden – and more than sixty short stories, Hautala was a prolific author, who was highly regarded by his peers. He also penned screenplays for several short films, including The Ugly Film based on a story by Ed Gorman, Peekers, adapted from a short story by Kealan Patrick Burke, and Dead @ 17 from Josh Howard’s graphic novel.
Numerous tributes have been paid to Hautala, with Golden noting that “the horror community lost a true legend today.”
