The Primeval TV saga has hit another hiatus, as Canadian channel Space has failed to commission the spin-off Primeval New World for a new season.
Low ratings were the cause of the show’s demise. The series aired its final episode in Canada this week; British viewers have six more to go.
“Unfortunately, the audience growth throughout the first season was not as strong as hoped, even after a schedule move in January from Monday to Tuesday nights to provide the benefit of a lead-in from established series Face Off,” Scott Henderson, vice-president of communications for Bell Media, said in an official press release on February 21. “The series has also seen an almost weekly decline in ratings since its premiere. We remain incredibly proud of this series and extend our sincere thanks to Omnifilm Entertainment for Season 1.”
Sci-Fi Bulletin will still produce the interviews from our set visit which we have been holding to prevent spoilers for the UK audience – these include Niall Matter, Sara Canning, Danny Rahim, Crystal Lowe, Gillian Horvath and Martin Wood as well as effects supremo Mark Savela.
