According to reports at Deadline, despite various statements to the effect that he did not want to be considered for the role, Star Trek director J.J. Abrams has apparently signed up to helm one of the new Star Wars films that will be produced by Disney following their purchase of Lucasfilm last year.
“It’s [a] done deal with J.J.,” a “source with knowledge of the situation” is quoted at the website as saying today (January 24th).
Disney are currently working on episodes VII, VIII and IX of the saga. Oscar-winner Michael Arndt is penning the script for episode VII, and Lawrence Kasdan and Simon Kinberg are tipped to work on the other two instalments.
