robopocalyps_paperback_0857204149_300Not many people can stand in the way of a robot uprising, but veteran film maker Steven Spielberg certainly has the clout to do so. Dreamworks’ version of Daniel H. Wilson’s novel Robopocalypse is no longer on the director’s immediate to-do list.

Reports indicate that the director wants more work done on the script, by Drew Goddard, so rather than starting work on it this spring, with a view to a 2014 release, it’s been pushed back to an as yet unnamed new start date.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Spielberg explained “We found that the film was costing a lot of money and I found a better way to tell the story more economically but also much more personally. I found the personal way into Robopocalypse, and so I just told everybody to go find other jobs, I’m starting on a new script and we’ll have this movie back on its feet soon.” According to the magazine, Spielberg estimates that there will be a six-eight month delay.

  1. Who on Earth actually thought Spielberg qualified to direct this movie? Because “A.I.” was such a stunning success? After he drained all the sci-fi out of it and made it a wobbly, bloated, overly-long Walt Disney styled remake of “Pinocchio” and cartoons from his childhood in the 50ies? Ew.

Let Spielberg stick to his warm and fuzzy aliens and dinosaurs. With tear-jerking violins and predictability. He was plotting to shoot all of this blockbuster tentpole outside the country anyway. So he could keep more of the money for himself Warner Bros’ Wall Street style, instead of supporting his community, his state, his country or the American film industry THAT MADE HIM!

Here Spielberg should step aside. And give ROBOPOCALYPSE to someone who’s actually interested in this century’s identity! Because honestly, I’m tired of action movies with funny costumes that call themselves sci-fi. And skim over the SCIENCE in Science Fiction.

    Yes, I’m disappointed.
