In a look ahead to drama during 2013, BBC One Controller Danny Cohen has confirmed that there will be some major event dramas including “the Doctor Who 50th Anniversary Special. These shows will bring a rich range of tones and worlds to BBC One’s fiction.”

Cohen also announced a primetime adaptation of Susanna Clarke’s novel Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell, as well as a new spy series by Being Human’s Toby Whithouse.

This is the first official confirmation that there will be a dramatic element to the anniversary celebrations on top of Mark Gatiss’ play about the creation of the series.
