After fervent speculation following last weekend’s announcement of Disney’s purchase of Lucasfilm, it has been confirmed that Michael Arndt will be penning the screenplay for the upcoming Star Wars Episode VII, due for release in 2015.

StarWars.com noted that Arndt, who won an Oscar for Best Original Screenplay for Little Miss Sunshine and was nominated for his Toy Story 3 script, has begun story conferences with Kathleen Kennedy and George Lucas regarding the script. Deadline notes that Arndt has written a treatmnet for the complete new trilogy of movies.
