After original director Rupert Wyatt backed out of helming the sequel to Rise of the Planet of the Apes, Fox has been desperately looking for a replacement so that they can make the May 23, 2014 release date to which they are committed.

Cloverfield and Let Me In director Matt Reeves looks set to take up the directorial reins on Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, according to Deadline, beating out opposition including Guillermo del Toro. The script by Rick Jaffa & Amanda Silver continues the story of the first film which rebooted the premise (read our review here).
