Prolific film composer John Williams is to be honoured at the Classic Brit Awards in October.

The eighty year old writer has composed scores for movies since 1958, and has received 47 Academy Award nominations (the second highest ever, after Walt Disney). His best-known genre work includes Lost in Space, The Time Tunnel, Star Wars, Superman, Close Encounters of the 3rd Kind, Jaws, ET, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Jurassic Park, the original Harry Potter scores, and The Adventures of Tintin.

The Lifetime Achievement Award will be presented at the ceremony at the Albert Hall on October 2nd; highlights will be broadcast on ITV at a later date.
