British film director Tony Scott, whose credits include The Hunger, Enemy of the State and Deja Vu, has died aged 68.
The younger brother of Ridley Scott, Tony Scott began his directorial career helming commercials for his brother’s company before turning to feature films, beginning the unusual vampire film The Hunger, featuring David Bowie and Catherine Deneuve. Although this wasn’t a commercial success, his next film, Top Gun, definitely was and he became one of the go-to directors for “high concept” films such as Crimson Tide. Some of his most recent movies were also with the star of that film, Denzel Washington: Deja Vu and The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3, and his last film, Unstoppable, starred Star Trek’s Chris Pine.
The prolific director apparently committed suicide from the San Pedro Bridge on August 19.
