Creature creator Carlo Rambaldi, who won Academy Awards for his work on ET and Alien, has died aged 86.

Steven Spielberg paid tribute to the legendary expert, describing him as like Pinocchio’s creator for his work on ET. Rambaldi also brought the aliens at the end of Close Encounters of the 3rd Kind to life.

During his long career, Rambaldi worked with Andy Warhol and Dario Argento as well as with David Lynch on Dune and on the 1976 version of King Kong. His last film was 1988’s Primal Rage, directed by his son.
