The CW is putting its faith in genre-related offerings this season, with Rockne S. O’Bannon’s Cult, the DC-based Arrow and the revamp of Beauty and the Beast all receiving series orders.
Cult has had a long journey to the screen, originally pitched for the 2005-6 season, before being revamped for 2009-10, and then reworked for the current schedule. The show will star The Vampire Diaries’ Matt Davis alongside Jessica Lucas. Speaking exclusively to Sci-Fi Bulletin, O’Bannon said, “Cult is intended to be a very wild ride. Creepy, emotional, chilling, did I mention creepy?”
Arrow takes a new look at DC’s long-running Green Arrow character, who made appearances on hit series Smallville. However this is a new take on the mythology.
Beauty and the Beast, starring Smallville‘s Kristin Kreuk, is an updating of the classic 1980s series which starred Ron Perlman and Linda Hamilton. ABC were considering a similarly-titled show, based on the original fairy-story, but have decided against proceeding.
