J.J. Abrams’ latest TV series has become another one-season wonder, with Alcatraz failing to get a pick-up for a second year.
The time-travelling series (broadcast on Fox in the US and Watch in the UK) failed to spark with audiences despite a strong cast and echoes of Lost‘s multiple-reality scenarios. Deadline points out that its fate was pretty much decided when Fox renewed Fringe for a fifth and final season.
Co-creator Steven Lilien posted on Twitter: “They said no one could escape from #Alcatraz but apparently Fox just did. Thanks to our amazing cast, crew and fans! We had a blast. #booze”
Abrams’ new series Revolution, created with Supernatural’s Eric Kripke, has been picked up by NBC.
