A new version of George Orwell’s acclaimed dystopia novel Nineteen Eighty-Four is to be produced by Image Entertainment and LBI Entertainment, with the hunt underway for a screenwriter.

When Ron Howard and Brian Grazer of Imagine sought out the rights to re-adapt the book, they discovered LBI Entertainment had the same idea. In an unusual example of Hollywood co-operation, the producers have teamed up to develop the new movie.

Orwell’s work was last adapted (suitably) in 1984 starring John Hurt, with a previous 1956 movie starring Michael Redgrave and an acclaimed 1954 BBC TV version featuring Hammer movies star Peter Cushing.
