Martin Scorsese has put Steampunk firmly on the mainstream map with his latest film Hugo, which won five Academy Awards at the Oscar ceremony on February 26th, the same number as the highly-acclaimed hit The Artist.

Former Star Trek: The Next Generation visual effects maestro Rob Legato and his team were honoured for Best Visual Effects; the film won both Best Sound Mixing and Best Sound Editing, as well as Best Cinematography and Best Art Direction.

While the Harry Potter finale wasn’t recognised by the Academy, the makers can be relieved that they haven’t featured in the Golden Raspberry Award nominations. While Adam Sandler’s Jack & Jill is the recipient of the highest number, the third Transformers movie and the first part of the Twilight epic Breaking Dawn both featured heavily with nominations for one or both in each category. The Razzies will be announced on April 1st.
