It could get confusing next season, with two rival versions of Beauty and the Beast both now ordered to pilot.

CBS recently gave the green light to an updated version of the much loved 1980s TV series, which starred Linda Hamilton and Ron Perlman. ABC has now followed suit, and has commisioned a pilot of their fairytale-based version of the story, written and devised by Human Target adaptor Jonathan E. Steinberg.

ABC’s incarnation is described as “a period/fantastical reimagining of the classic fairy tale set in a mythical, dangerous world wherein a beautiful and tough Princess discovers an unlikely connection with a mysterious beast.”
