Genre films and television shows didn’t do particularly well at this year’s Golden Globes, hosted by Ricky Gervais on January 15, but actors in current cult hits American Horror Story and Game of Thrones walked away with honours.

Veteran actress Jessica Lange beat off stiff competition to win the TV Best Supporting Actress award for her role in American Horror Story, while Peter Dinklage won the male equivalent for his performance on Game of Thrones. Both series had been nominated for Best TV Drama, but lost out to the new Claire Danes thriller Homeland.

The Adventures of Tintin won Best Animated Feature, and Martin Scorsese’s Hugo won Best Director.
