As part of this year’s grand celebrations of the 50th anniversary of the first James Bond movie, Dr No, MGM has announced that all the 22 official movies to date will be released on Blu-ray in a box set, unsurprisingly entitled Bond 50.
“With all 22 feature films available on Blu-ray in one collection for the first time this is a great way for fans to catch up on 007’s epic journey before Skyfall hits theaters next fall,” said Michael Brown, Senior Vice President, MGM Home Entertainment said in the official press release. “Now viewers can enjoy the intense action of the innovative franchise in the most immersive home experience possible.”
MGM also announced that The Road to Perdition composer Thomas Newman will be scoring the 23rd movie, Skyfall. “Thomas is one of the most respected and successful composers, he has a long history of working with Sam Mendes and we look forward to welcoming him into the Bond family,” producers Michael. G Wilson and Barbara Broccoli noted, with Newman commenting, “I’m incredibly excited to be working with Sam again. It’s a real thrill to be able to collaborate on something as special as a Bond movie.”
Newman succeeds David Arnold who has written the scores for the movies since 1997’s Tomorrow Never Dies. Arnold will “continue to be involved with the 50th anniversary for Bond,” MGM noted, pointing out that he is currently engaged on the closing ceremonies for the London Olympics and Paralympics. Arnold said he is a “huge fan of Thomas Newman so I am as excited as anyone to see where Sam Mendes and his team take James Bond on his 50th anniversary.”
