Six years after initially receiving a pilot order from the WB for his mystery drama Cult, Farscape and Defiance writer/producer Rockne S. O’Bannon is finally pressing ahead with production on the series after the CW gave the okay.
According to Deadline, the new version of Cult “centres on an inquisitive, young female production assistant on a wildly popular television show called Cult who, after a rash of disappearances and a likely murder, joins a journalist blogger in investigating the rabid fans of the series who might be re-creating crimes seen on the programme in real life.” O’Bannon admitted that the initial idea sprang from his dealings with the Farscape fan community “obviously taken to an extreme”.
Cult will be produced by Gossip Girl co-creators Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage, with O’Bannon exclusively telling Sci-Fi Bulletin, “It’s been a wild, wild journey. But it’s especially exciting to be partnered with a network poised to take some very bold steps.” Deadline suggests that the show may consist of 13-episode seasons if picked up to series by the CW.
