Following criticism by Ofcom, UK digital channel Watch has suspended all repeat broadcasts of the adult Doctor Who spin-off Torchwood.
The channel had been rerunning the first two seasons of the show unedited in a 4 p.m. slot. Complaints were directed at the use of four-letter words, as well as overt violence. Watch apologised for distress caused to viewers by the broadcast of the programme, which was deliberately made for the post-watershed audience, and was never deemed suitable for a general airing.
Watch has stopped all broadcasts of the show and Torchwood will not return to their schedules “until the entire series had been reviewed”. UKTV also noted that other programmes may fall foul of compliance guidelines, and that they were therefore reviewing various other, unnamed, shows.
Doctor Who is such a great programme, I really can’t wait for the next series this autumn, Awesome read :)
