According to executive producer and head writer Steven Moffat, there will be a change in personnel in the TARDIS during the upcoming seventh series of Doctor Who.

“The final days of the Ponds are coming during the next series,” Moffat announced at the press launch for the Christmas Special, The Doctor, The Widow and The Wardrobe held tonight. “Then the Doctor will meet a new friend.” More details will be released by the BBC tomorrow.

Meanwhile, Moffat has also noted that he thinks River Pond will return to the series, according to the official Doctor Who twitter feed.
