Although the character of Castiel was apparently written out from Supernatural early in the seventh season, actor Misha Collins is returning to the series for at least three episodes later this year.

Executive producer Sera Gamble had promised that “It has always been our intention to bring back Misha in some form” and now a WB spokesperson has confirmed to TV Line that he will guest star in episode 17, as well as “at least two additional episodes beyond that”.

Collins told AOL TV, “I can confirm that the character of Castiel is returning to Supernatural. I’m not supposed to talk about any details, but I will tell you this: The character is coming back somewhat changed. I’m not going to tell you everything, but I will tell you that the “new” Castiel no longer wears undergarments.”

New episodes begin on the CW on January 6, following the show’s winter finale on December 2.
