Hammer Films have acquired the rights to Cherie Priest’s steampunk zombie novel Boneshaker, which will be adapted by John Hilary Shepherd.

The Hugo Award-nominated novel is the first in a sequence of “Clockwork Century” stories by Priest, set in an alternate version of 1880s Seattle, sixteen years after a “boneshaker” drilling machine released a gas from beneath the town, turning the inhabitants into “rotters” – otherwise known as zombies. A young widow searches for her lost son in the town, facing the rotters and other dangers.

Boneshaker will be co-produced by Hammer and Cross Creek Pictures and co-financed by Exclusive and Cross Creek Pictures.
