Former Criminal Minds showrunner Ed Bernero has sold an adaptation of Marvel’s Punisher to Fox.
Created for The Amazing Spider-Man comic book in 1974, The Punisher follows the adventures of Frank Castle, a veteran soldier and detective who turns vigilante after the murder of his family. Not possessing any super-powers, Castle survives on his wits and incredible fitness.
The Punisher has appeared in numerous series over the years, including a long running book in the Max adult line. The concept has been adapted for the big screen on three occasions, with Dolph Lundgren, Thomas Jane and Ray Stevenson playing the Punisher. The new version is described as “an hour-long procedural with a Marvel signature”.
Bernero recently sold The Eye to ABC about a group of Pinkerton detectives in 1871 who investigate unexplained phenomena.
