According to an exclusive report at Deadline, Band of Brothers and Anonymous writer John Orloff is close to signing a deal to pen the new movie adaptation of Glen A. Larson’s 1978 TV series Battlestar Galactica.

“I have wanted to write this movie since I was 12 years old, and built a Galactica model from scratch out of balsa wood, cardboard, old model parts and LEDs,” Orloff told Deadline. “I love BSG, and I would pass on the job rather than frak it up.”

X-Men‘s Bryan Singer is set to direct the movie, and is keen to proceed after his proposed remake of John Boorman’s Excalibur was recently cancelled by Warner Bros. The new version will be inspired by the original TV series in the same way that Ron Moore’s hit cult reinvention was, but is unlikely to be directly linked to either version.
