According to a new interview promoting his hosting duties on AMC’s FearFest weekend accompanying the launch of the second season of The Walking Dead, zombie director George A. Romero hasn’t seen an episode of the hit series – and even turned down a chance to helm one of the episodes.
“[First season producers] Frank [Darabont] and [Greg] Nicotero were calling me and asking me to do one of these,” he told Zap2It. “I don’t have any desire to do one because… my zombies live in sort of my universe and they’re political and they’re different from whatever that is.”
The man responsible for some of the classic zombie movies including Night of the Living Dead is not impressed with the number of zombie appearances in the media at present. “I used to think that I had them in my pocket somewhere,” he told the website. “And now they’re sort of all over the place and I’m not thrilled.”
